Our approach
TABrec (“the app”) records your guitar and turns it into tablature and standard notation. Recording and transcription happen entirely on your device. Your recordings and scores are never sent to us or to anyone else. The app has no permission to access the internet, and no account is needed.
Microphone
The app uses the microphone only while the tuner is running or while you are recording after pressing “Record”. Android asks for your permission first. If you do not allow it, you can still use the rest of the app (for example, viewing saved scores).
Tuner audio is used only to measure pitch on your device and is not saved.
Information stored on your device
Recordings and scores
Audio you record with “Record” (WAV) and the scores made from it (title, tempo, tuning, notes and so on) are saved in the app’s private storage.
Settings
Your chosen tuning, light or dark display, whether to vibrate when in tune, whether you have purchased TABrec Pro, whether you have used the app since version 1.0, and similar settings.
All of this is removed from your device when you uninstall the app. The app is excluded from Android’s automatic backup.
Information we do not collect
The app does not collect location, contacts, photos, device identifiers or the advertising ID. It contains no analytics and no ads.
Export and sharing
Scores are exported (PDF, JPEG, MIDI, text tab) or shared only when you choose to. You pick where they go (Google Drive, email, social apps and so on), and those services handle them under their own terms.
In-app purchase (TABrec Pro)
From version 1.1, export and sharing are available with the one-time purchase “TABrec Pro” (they stay free for people who have used the app since version 1.0). Purchases are made through Google Play, and your payment information is handled by Google; the app never receives it.
The app only asks Google Play on your device whether Pro has been purchased and stores the result (a “purchased” flag) on your device. No purchase information is sent to our servers. Google’s Privacy Policy applies to information handled during the purchase.
Sharing with third parties
None. Your recordings and scores never leave the app unless you export or share them yourself.
Languages
The app is available in English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Chinese (Simplified) and Korean.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will announce it on this page.
